LIRIOPE bringing Narcissus before Teiresias,
Giulio Carpioni, 1660s
Infinite Spark Theater Company opens the next stage of our creative process:
LIRIOPE LABORATORY
Liriope Laboratory is named after the Liriope Stipend, a memorial fund created in honor of the artistry and inspiration of master-teacher and theater-maker Ulla Wolcz, by her husband Niky Wolcz.
As inspired by their generous artistry, this laboratory is dedicated to the development of new and adapted works of experimental, artist-centered, body-based, and stylistically adventurous theater.
Liriope Laboratory is the incubator for Infinite Spark’s new projects, and will eventually offer opportunities for members of the community to experiment on their own work with mentorship from Infinite Spark.

Liriope was the mother of Narcissus.
Worried about the future welfare of her child,
she asked Teiresias, the blind seer, about it.
His answer seems to be a paradox.
He alluded that Narcissus will have an accomplished life
if he does not fall prey to the fallacy of having recognized himself,
‘si se non noverit’
So the most important question for an actor might not only be:
“Who am I?”, but as well: “Who is this Other, this ‘allon’”?
-Wolcz
“What you perceive
is the shadow of reflected form
nothing of you is in it.
It comes and stays with you,
and leaves with you…
if you
can
leave!”
-Ovid, Metamorphoses
