How Can I Take Part?

How to get involved in Infinite Spark’s LIRIOPE LABORATORY

Adults of all ages and experience levels are welcome to take part in the Liriope Laboratory!

There are many ways in which you can participate, depending on your interest.

You can:

·      develop an idea for a theater piece you already have (whether original, or an adaptation);

·      generate an idea to develop into a theater piece;

·      be a performer who will collaborate in the development of Infinite Spark’s, or another participant’s, ideas;

·      all of the above—

·      or, “I’m not sure, but I want to be in the room!”

No prior experience with devising, adapting, or even performing, is necessary. If you’re interested in exploring embodied creativity & expression, come on in.

Attendance:

No participant will be required to attend every single session. Some will naturally attend more frequently, and others less, depending on things like:

·      if they’re leading a piece or not

·      if their piece is being worked on or not

·      if they’re interested in performing in a piece or not, etc.

Also, pieces will be developed on an ongoing, rolling basis, so some may attend for one “cycle” of material, but not another.

A Note on our Approach:

The Liriope Laboratory will center body-based approaches in its work, rather than text-based, or playwriting-centered approaches. Will we, and do we, work with texts? Absolutely! All we mean is that Lab work will focus on building and creating from the body, in space, and as an ensemble.

Based on this, we want to make it clear: just because Lab work is body-based does not mean that anyone involved must be an “acrobat”, a mover, a dancer, etc.

Instead, to us, body-based means that every Body, inclusive of all ability-levels and experiences, is the raw material for the ensemble’s exploration and expression. We use a ‘strengths-based’ model, which acknowledges that every person comes with different strengths and aptitudes. And it’s because of each person’s diversities, that each process, expression, and ensemble becomes unique, specific, and personal. It’s an artist-centered, relational framework that undoes top-down hierarchy in favor of ensemble-work and collaboration.

We’re so excited to share space with you!
