Jon Froehlich
Co-Artistic Director
Jon is a dedicated theater maker who was born and raised in Michigan, shaped in Colorado and Pennsylvania, and active professionally in New York City for almost two decades. He is a recent transplant to Rochester, NY, where he has so far collaborated with Nickel Flour (Firewater), and trained with PUSH Physical Theater and Katharine Marino. With Rachel, he is delighted to form Infinite Spark as their contribution to Rochester’s thriving creative scene.
In NYC, Jon co-founded and was artistic director of experimental theater company Cloud of Fools, which ran from 2011 to 2019, mounted 7 productions, and toured regionally. He was also a founding member of Theatre Kuden, which ran from 2006 to 2010 under the artistic direction of Romanian juggernaut Niky Wolcz, and performed in NYC, Puerto Rico, Italy, and Germany. Jon also had the great honor of collaborating frequently with sister companies Caborca, Stolen Chair, Dangerous Ground, M-34, and others.
As a teacher, Jon has taught Movement and Acting at Pace University, Columbia University’s MFA Acting program, the New York Conservatory for the Dramatic Arts, and in workshops in NYC, regionally, and internationally. His pedagogy, rooted in physical theater traditions from around the world, emphasizes collaboration, rigor, and serious play. (And if any of his former students are reading this…the door to the laboratory is always open.)
